Here are some pics of a couple of US Navy F-18 Hornets that got a bit too close to each other during a head-on attack pass. The results are easily seen and I find it hard to believe these aircraft remained flyable, must less able to land!

Yes, these are real and yes, they both landed safely.

I do not know if the pilots are still flying.

Definitely not WW2, but worth a look at how rugged the F-18 is and how these pilots were able to "bring it home" after causing the damage by ignoring safety rules that surely cover hitting each other in mock combat situations!

Hope the non-WW2 subject is not too offensive, but these pics are amazing, at least to me ... then again, maybe I'm not exactly a normal guy ... [:I]

OK, back to WW2 stuff!

I've seen a picture of an F15 after a mid-air - IIRC, the starboard wing now ended midway between the fuselage and the inner wing pylon (the one usually used to carry the drop tanks) but it still landed OK.

Their was an Isreali F-15 that lost most of its wing and rtb a few years back. Not sure if this is the one you are thinking of OMN1. Iirc the Isreali wing was just a stub.

This was over 10-15 years ago, I think it was a USAF plane, I do remember the Israeli one which reminded me of the earlier one when it happened.
