Hi everyone,
For several years I have been collecting data on aircraft electronically. It started out as a private file on WWII fighters, but soon branched into "modern aircraft, mostly from 1935 or 1936 onward, of mostly the military kind, but including a few interesting earlier and civilian planes."
The file is in Microsoft Excel. The planes are broken up into Piston, Carard and Oddities, Turboprop and Mixed Power, Rocket Planes, Jets, and X-Planes. There is also some data on Japanese and Russian aircaft code names and aircraft weapons, and other interesting data, mostly of WWII nature. I pretty much designed it for 1280 x 1024 screen resolution, but you can try whatever resolution you want.
The data I have consist of Pictures, Country, Aircraft Mfg, Designation, Name, Date (service or 1st flight), Wing span, length, height, wing area, engine mfg, engine designation, # engines, Normal HP (or thrust), War Emergency HP (or AB thrust), empty weight, normal loaded weight, max weight, max speed, cruise speed, rate of climb, max range, normal range, ceiling, guns, bombs or cargo weight, and some descriptive text (most entries).
Most planes have at least one picture, though there ARE 3 or 4 with no picture since I can't FIND one. Some have 5 to 8 pictures or more. Many are prototypes of which only 1 was built.
I currently have mostly complete data for all but about 5 or 6 of the 970+ aircraft in the file (can't find wing area for the Bloch 180 or the Me 209 V-1 to name a couple). Of these, probably 920+ are military types. The current file size is 60 MB, and it grows almost daily.
Obviously, I can't go into production of this file on CD, nor do I wish to do so. Too much work involved to just habd it out to anyone.
But, if YOU want a copy, then contact me at http:\[email protected] .
I'll ask you to send me a blank CD with a return postage paid CD mailer, and I'll record it and send it to you.
I ask that you not publish anything on it without cutting me in on it.
The few people on this board seem to be real fans of airplanes like me. Corsarius and Simon come to mind right away. Both are knowledgeable and willing to discuss their views rationally. I sense that most people who post are INTERESTED in the planes without a lot of obvious other agendas. So, this is merely an offer to help you acquire an electronic list of the particulars of almost 1,000 airplane, mostly of a military nature.
So ... if youa re interested, let me know. I can't email a 60MB file, so a CD is the media of choice.
And, the data can be imported into almost any database. I chose Excel because most people HAVE it, not because I thought it was the correct application.
All the best and I like ALL of your choices for the best fighter, bomber, all-round airplane, etc. Heck, I can't decide for myself which plane is the best, so I certainly won't try to convince YOU of it!
Keep 'em flying, - Greg
