Lancaster after dark, East Kirkby
I have just discovered that at East Kirkby they are going to run the Lancaster engines up after dark on November 1st with a firework display afterwards!

Its a bit far for me to come up for the day...
I'm going round Rolls-Royce's facilities in Filton in a few weeks so I should be able to get some good photos there.

Hi Red Admiral,
It rained, so next year will be a better time, looking forward to seeing your pictures of Filton .
I understand a lot, most of the old Bristol material has been or is being shifted to Derby.
but I am sure you will find some things for us to drool over!

East Kirby is a great Museum. A friend of mine was lucky enough to go on the 'taxi in a Lancaster' event.

Wow. What great opportunity.
I've not seen a British bomber for real, ever.
Yankee bombers, the biggies, I have... All the greats, Flying Fortress, Liberator, Superfortress... even the insides.
Someday, I hope to see artificats from the Commonwealth... Such as those mighty heavies...the Lancaster is such a towering legend. It'd be an event to remember to see the other half of the "big wing".

Trexx, there is a flying Lanc in Canada that does some of the air shows in the States.
Seen it a Carp (just outside Ottawa) a few years ago. Never thought it would land as it just floated and floated down the 3,937' runway. Fantastic sound those 4 Merlins made.
Carp was originally a military airfield, and participated in the British Commonwealth Air Training Program during World War II.

I dug out a few photos from my trip to East Kirby last year.
The Lanc

They also have a few other aircraft, plus vehicles

plus lots of aircraft noses that you can get inside:

And tons of other interesting things, like an experimental land-based arrestor gear.
And if you get lucky you'll see some of these from the RAF base down the road.

The CWH Museum has dedicated its Mynarski Memorial Lancaster to the memory of Pilot Officer Andrew Charles Mynarski, VC, of 419 (Moose) Squadron, 6 (RCAF) Group. Mynarski won 6 Group's only Victoria Cross, the Commonwealth's highest award for gallantry in battle. On the night of 12/13 June 1944, his Lancaster X was shot down by a Luftwafffe night fighter. As the bomber plunged earthwards, Mynarski, his flying clothing afire, tried in vain to free his trapped rear gunner from the jammed rear turret. Miraculously, the gunner lived to relate the story of Mynarski's bravery. Unfortunately, Mynarski died from his severe burns.

There is also a forward fuselage that one can get up and close to.
