I’ve read that before it was cancelled in 1938, the RR Exe had a relatively trouble free design period.
If this is true, then what was the difference between this and the Bristol and Napier sleeve-valve engines that made these need a lot more effort to get working?
The Exe was proposed for use in the Folland F19.43 - as this lost to the Sea Fury despite being preferred by the FAA, developmnet must have continued beyond the 1,200hp it was giving in 1938??
