RAF light to medium bombers could use individual bomb sizes up 4,000lb HC – the Mosquito had its bomb bay bulged to carry a single 4,000lb bomb, it was to be one of the possible loads of the proposed Hawker high speed bomber and was a possible load for the Buckingham.
USAAF light to medium bombers didn’t seem to use individual bomb size greater than 2,000lb?
Was this due to the way the two air forces planned to use their aircraft?
Did the requiring the Buckingham and Hawker high speed bomber to carry a single 4,000lb HC bomb make them wider/deeper than they would have needed to be if they were to carry just the say 2 x 2,000lb or 6 x 500lb (Buckingham) or 4 x 1,000lb (Hawker high speed bomber) which some of the other possible loads?
How would the North American XB-28 have fitted in to USAAF use – it had the bombload of a medium but the operating height of a heavy.
