Hi guys!
I'm new to the board and it's good to see so many knowlegable people in one place. I was hoping some of you could help me out with a project I, and some other classmates are working on for Uni. We're essentially looking for illustrations of the damage done to aircraft, primarily from WW2, although if anyone has illustrations of damage done by gunfire to later or earlier aircraft that would be great. In particular if anyone has any Mpegs from gun cameras that would be fantastic.
Also any written accounts regarding damage would be good and brilliant if we can find it's source.

Alex, where do you live?
There's a good issue of Flypast from a few months ago, I'll dig out the references, which recounts a fairly famous story of a B-17 which had its entire nose blown off and managed to make it home. If you're in Britain it should be relatively easy to get ahold of.
Mark Arnold Forster's (I think I spelled it right) The World at War has a picture of an RAF B-24 which was bombed by another plane when out of formation and managed to limp back to friendly territory.
As for electronic copies of pictures, you could try: http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/wrecks.html
It's probably worth having a good look around the Warbirds Resource Group as I'm aware of other pictures in there of damaged aircraft as well
Let us know where you are (I'm guessing Britain), so we may be able to give more relevant local sources.
What's your Uni project about?
Regards,
Simon.

Hi Simon,
I live in Australia, just a little too far to pop around and pick up your copy of "Flypast." :D
We're presenting a short oral presentation for our tutorial group on the strategic bombing effort of the Allies. One of my co-workers has done a multi-media course so we were thinking of doing a powerpoint slide show but it'd be very cool if we could find some .mpeg or .avi formatted gun and bomb camera footage. We've got one of an early model B17 being attacked head on by some type of fighter but it's very very short. It does give you an idea of how difficult this type of combat would be.
Thanks for the link.

Just a little bit more than a stroll round the corner! :D
I'm led to believe from Corsarius that Flypast is available in Australia so I'll did out the issue date and number anyway, just incase it proves useful.
Good Luck,
Simon.

Alex, if you are interested in histories and information. Try looking at the USAF history, or try the Eight Airforce website. Also some good pics about the B-24 and the Polesti raid. If you have the time they can be found with a simple serch with google or other engine. Her are some others that I have found good:
www.mikekemble.com/ww2/aircraft.html
www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/annex/an43.htm
www.b24bestweb.com -this site I have used for resurch and is one of my favorates. Aslo has a forum and resurch help. Some nice stuff.
If you have more questions just ask. also try to look for veterans groups, or even Public Television.
